Key Features and Components
Matrix Type and Shape
These matrices are Saddle Matrices, characterized by their pronounced convex curvature that naturally mimics the buccal and lingual contours of posterior teeth. This anatomical design promotes highly accurate proximal restorations.
Quantity
The kit contains 36 saddle matrices, providing a large and practical supply with a wide range of size options for daily clinical use.
Material
The matrices are manufactured from high-quality, thin, elastic medical-grade stainless steel. This material is strong enough to withstand condensation forces while remaining thin enough to achieve ideal interproximal contact points.
Thickness Options
The matrices are typically available in two thicknesses for clinical versatility:
-
0.050 mm (Standard): Offers excellent rigidity and is suitable for most restorative procedures.
-
0.035 mm (Ultra-thin): Ideal for very tight interproximal spaces where minimal matrix thickness is critical.
Sizing and Variety
The 36 matrices are supplied in a practical assortment of the most commonly used sizes:
-
Small (N 1.311)
-
Medium (N 1.312)
-
Large (N 1.313)
The kit usually contains a balanced distribution of these standard sizes to ensure the clinician can always select the optimal fit.
Clamping Mechanism
The matrices are designed for use with a TOR VM Springclip, most commonly N 1.003 or N 1.004. The spring clip’s tines engage with small cylindrical tubes or holes on the matrix edges, applying the required separating force to create a reliable and tight interproximal contact between the restored tooth and the adjacent tooth.
Clinical Advantages
Superior Contouring
The saddle shape accurately recreates the marginal ridge height and natural proximal contour, which are essential for proper occlusion and long-term gingival health.
Tight Contact Points
The matrix and clip system maintains proper interproximal separation during restoration, ensuring consistently tight and functional contact points after removal.
Minimized Flash
The precise fit of the matrix significantly reduces material overflow (flash) beyond the margins, making finishing and polishing faster and more efficient.
