Instrument Overview

This instrument is a double-ended sickle scaler, designed for the efficient removal of supragingival calculus and small amounts of calculus in shallow subgingival areas. Its sharp cutting edges and rigid blade design make it highly effective for scaling procedures.

End 1 – Towner Sickle Scaler (U15)

One working end features a Towner sickle scaler (U15). This blade is primarily used on anterior teeth and, in some cases, premolars. Its curved working end allows effective adaptation to both the facial (labial) and lingual surfaces of the anterior dentition.

End 2 – Jacquette Scaler (e.g., J30 / J33)

The opposite working end is a Jacquette-type sickle scaler, commonly designated as J30 or J33. This blade is especially suited for anterior teeth, with particular effectiveness on proximal (interproximal) surfaces and in tight contact areas. It features a straight sickle blade with a pointed tip and two sharp cutting edges, enabling precise access and calculus removal between teeth.

Overall Clinical Function

As a sickle scaler, the instrument is designed for the removal of supragingival calculus and light deposits located just below the gingival margin in shallow pockets. The strong blade geometry and sharp edges allow for efficient fracture and removal of hardened deposits.
