Instrument Type

The Jacquette 2–3 is a double-ended sickle scaler, designed to allow the clinician to switch seamlessly between two complementary working ends without changing instruments. This improves efficiency during routine scaling procedures.

Numbering and Designation (2–3 Pattern)

The 2–3 numbering specifically identifies the shape, angulation, and length of the working ends. This pattern typically includes one straight working end and one slightly angled or contra-angled working end, enabling access to different tooth surfaces with optimal adaptation.

Working End Geometry

Each working end has a triangular cross-section with a pointed tip. The design features two sharp cutting edges per tip, which are highly effective for fracturing, lifting, and removing hardened supragingival calculus from tooth surfaces.

Primary Clinical Use

This scaler is primarily intended for supragingival calculus removal. It is used to eliminate moderate to heavy plaque and tartar deposits located above the gingival margin, where a pointed tip and strong cutting edges are most effective.

Area of Application

While Jacquette scalers were historically associated with anterior teeth, the 2–3 pattern is especially suited for posterior teeth. It is commonly used on molars and premolars, including mesial and distal (interproximal) surfaces, where access can be challenging.

The instrument is manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel, ensuring excellent durability, corrosion resistance, and the ability to maintain a sharp cutting edge through repeated sterilization cycles.
