Key Product Category: Rear Surface (RS) Mirror
Rear Surface (RS) Coating – Defining Feature
The defining characteristic of the ECONOMY line is its Rear Surface (RS) mirror coating. Unlike Hahnenkratt’s premium Front Surface (FS) mirrors, the ECONOMY line uses a reflective silver layer that is applied to the back of the glass, which is the traditional construction method for dental mouth mirrors.
Image Quality
The RS coating provides a bright and clear image, but due to the reflection occurring through the glass surface, it may produce a very faint secondary reflection, often referred to as a “ghost image.” This is a standard optical effect inherent to traditional rear surface mirrors and is considered normal in routine clinical use.
Coating Material and Protection
The reflective layer consists of a triple layer of pure silver, which is further protected by a copper coating and sealed with a protective lacquer layer. This multi-layer system enhances durability and protects the reflective surface during daily clinical use.
Durability and Sterilization
Corrosion Resistance
Despite being positioned as an economy line, the mirror offers good resistance to corrosion, ensuring stability during prolonged clinical use.
Disinfection and Sterilization
The mirrors are designed to be highly resistant to standard chemical disinfectants and are fully sterilizable by autoclave, making them suitable for routine reprocessing in clinical environments.
Material
The mirror heads are manufactured from stainless steel, ensuring durability, hygiene, and compliance with common dental instrument standards.
Available Specifications
Mirror Shapes
The ECONOMY mirrors are available in two surface styles:
-
Plane (Flat): Provides a true-to-life, non-magnified image.
-
Hollow / Magnifying: Offers a slightly enlarged image for enhanced detail visibility.
Available Sizes
They are typically offered in standard dental mirror sizes:
-
Size 4: Approximately 22 mm in diameter.
-
Size 5: Approximately 24 mm in diameter.
Thread Type (Handle Compatibility)
The mirrors are compatible with standard dental mirror handles and are often available with:
-
SS Thread (Standard Stem)
-
CS Thread (Conical Stem)
This ensures broad compatibility with commonly used dental handles.
