Key Features and Grit System
Material and Construction
These polishing strips are typically manufactured from flexible, tear-resistant polyester (Lavsan) or fiber material. One side of each strip is coated with high-quality abrasive particles, most commonly Aluminum Oxide, ensuring effective and controlled finishing performance.
1. Coarse Grit (Blue & Green) – Gross Reduction / Contouring
These strips are designed for initial gross reduction and contouring. They are primarily used to remove excess flash and to shape the restoration during the early stages of finishing. The abrasive size typically ranges from 60 μm to 40 μm.
2. Medium Grit (Green & Yellow) – Contouring / Finishing
Medium grit strips are used after the coarse stage to further refine and smooth restoration margins. They help transition the surface from rough shaping to a more refined finish. The abrasive size generally ranges from 40 μm to 20 μm.
3. Fine Grit (Yellow & White) – Finishing / Polishing
Fine grit strips are intended for final finishing and polishing. They are used for delicate buffing to achieve a high-gloss, smooth, and aesthetically pleasing surface on restorations. The abrasive size typically ranges from 20 μm to 5 μm.
